An online meeting was held between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), and the Israel Electricity Authority (IEA) to exchange experience in the field of energy regulation.
The main purpose of the meeting was to lay the foundation for and expand cooperation between AERA and the Israel Electricity Authority (IEA) in the future, analyze energy markets, and identify potential areas for effective exchange of experience.
During the meeting, various bilateral issues related to the design of the energy markets of Azerbaijan and Israel, the development and use of renewable energy sources, and future cooperation between the two organizations were discussed.
Greeting the participants, the Deputy Energy Minister of Azerbaijan made a presentation and spoke about the activities of the regulatory authority of Azerbaijan.
Then Mr. Yoav Katsavoy gave an overview of the Israeli energy market, recent reforms in the electricity sector, in particular the vertical demonopolization of production, transmission, and distribution. The parties agreed to hold the next meeting at the expert level.
The Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) regulates and monitors issues related to electricity, gas, and heat. The agency, established by Presidential Decree No. 1750 of December 22, 2017, acts as a public legal entity under the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
The Israel Electricity Authority regulates and oversees the provision of government electricity services. The main functions of the IEA are the determination of tariffs for electricity, the quality of services and electricity for consumers, as well as the definition of criteria and indicators for licensing.
